Alopecia – Loss of hair from the head or body

Androgenic Alopecia – Hair loss caused by follicles miniaturizing to due the effects of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Both male patternandfemalepattern baldness are Androgenic Alopecia.

Anagen – The active growth stage of the hair cycle. In a normal cycle, 85% of hair will be in this stage.

Alpha 5 reductase –The enzyme that converts Testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone.

Catagen – Transitional phase of the hair cycle.

Dermis – The layer of tissue beneath the epidermis that contains hair follicles, nerve endings and blood vessels.

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)– The hormone which contributes to Male Pattern and Female Pattern baldness.

Epidermis – Superficial layer of skin.

Follicle – The skin organthat produceshair. There are 3 phases to the hair growth cycle. Anagen, Catagen and Telogen.

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) – A strip of scalp tissue is removedfrom the donor area. This piece of scalp tissue is thendissected into small pieces of tissue called micro grafts.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) – Individual follicular units containing 1 to 4 hairs removed from donor area, using punchesof between 0.6mm and 1.0mm in diameter.

Micro grafts – Follicular grafts consisting of 1,2,3 or 4 follicles.

Sebum – Oil excreted from the sebaceous glands.

Terminal hair – Thick, darkhair found on the head, face, underarmand pubic areas.

Trichology – The scientific study of hair and scalp.

Vellus hair – Fine, downy hair found on the body.

Vertex – Crown area of head
