Seeking work as an actor and television presenter, appearance can win employment. A full head of hair allows for versatility and longevity in a profession where reinvention and freshness are vital. This may also be the case in your profession.
For me, looking my best, and retaining a youthful image, is important to my career. At the same time, I’ve always believed that youth starts on the inside—by maintaining a youthful attitude and outlook on life. As more and more of my hair fell out, however, I became less convinced that I was holding up on the outside!
I began using different lotions and potions, and also tried a hair laser. The results were generally adequate—they helped to slow down my hair loss but nothing provided a long-term, permanent solution. I also drew on my experience as a yoga teacher for twelve years—understanding the relationship between exercise, diet, stress-reduction and healthy hair. In the yoga studio, I increased the number of headstands I was practicing, to increase blood flow to my scalp. I tried everything! But hair loss is written in your DNA and as I came to this realisation, so began a period of more comprehensive research.
Visiting hair loss clinics (including those at the forefront of public consciousness following their media marketing campaigns), I witnessed how willing these clinics are to take your money and how reluctant they are to provide, in depth, documented evidence of their processes and results. Clinics were ready to exploit me for every cent they could make with as little effort (on their part) as possible.
In time, my research took me to hair transplants using The Martinick Technique™. Here was something different. Here was a technique developed over decades and thousands of procedures—by a team trained to put safety, quality and artistry at the forefront of its work. When I realised that ALL OF US have a LIMITED number of hairs available for transplantation, I realised that I HAD TO GET IT RIGHT. THERE ISN’T A SECOND CHANCE and, as the results are permanent, they need to be permanently good.
I was so struck by the difference of The Martinick Technique™ (against cut-price or mass-marketed alternatives), especially regarding safety, quality, permanency, and the artistry of results—that I went ahead with a Martinick hair transplant. Having seen and researched the devastating permanent damage of poor quality work, I also felt compelled to assist the Martinick team with its education programme. This is a team passionate about delivering the best quality work that will last a lifetime.
Feeling compelled to help raise standards in what is a shockingly unregulated industry, I APPROACHED the Martinick clinic with an idea of documenting my experience of undertaking a first hair transplant using The Martinick Technique™. I didn’t receive a cent for making the film and nobody told me what to say. As an artist, and as someone who cares about artistry and quality, I felt that this was a film that needed to be documented. I hope the film will help prevent people from losing their life savings (or opting for a budget-priced solution). Poor quality hair transplants can do far more damage than good. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. Paying less often ends up costing you more.
The quality of your hair transplant is only as good as the quality of the doctor and their team working on you. How fast do they work? Will your transplant be completed in a single procedure, ensuring the survival of the grafts being transplanted? How many procedures does the doctor perform each month? Can the doctor prove their claims? Do they keep their skills current with regular practice? Will they be performing and managing your whole procedure from beginning to end? What is their international exposure? Have they received awards? Have they published articles (in medical journals) and written books? Do they attend conferences? Are they concerned about artistry? What is their knowledge of angle, direction, orientation and curl of hair?
If you don’t raise these questions your hair transplant might stick out in all different directions and even if it looks adequate, will you be getting the best possible permanent result with minimal scarring? If you’re not convinced by the answers to your well-researched questions, please don’t waste your money. Remember, paying less often ends up costing you more.
Having considered these issues deeply, and having now experienced TWO hair transplants using The Martinick Technique™, I am delighted to share my experience in finding an acceptable long term solution to my hair loss problem.
