If you’re having or considering a hair transplant you may be wondering what to expect on the day of the procedure.
While we will provide you with an information pack with pre-operative notes, advice about the day of the procedure and post-operative instructions, we welcome the opportunity to answer any further questions that you may have.
We also encourage you to speak to former Martinick Hair Restoration patients so you can learn about the results of their hair transplant and their experience on the day of the procedure.
Delivering the best possible outcome and ensuring our patients have a comfortable day are paramount at Martinick Hair Restoration.
Partly underpinning the high success rate of Martinick Technique™ hair transplants is our stringent clinical procedural framework and the training of the surgical team.
Our focus is on ensuring that the donor grafts are well looked after and these grafts are transplanted into the patient’s recipient area of their head as fast as possible.
This is essential to ensure the donor grafts receive the nutrition and oxygen needed to maximise their health, survival and growth.
So what happens on the day of your hair transplant?
On the day of your hair transplant procedure you will be greeted at reception and asked to sign a consent form.
After changing into a gown and booties, you will be shown into the theatre where photos are taken and your hair is washed with antiseptic.
Our caring surgical team will make sure you are comfortable in the theatre chair before our specialist physician marks out the placement of the recipient area for the transplanted grafts.
Surgical tape will be placed around your head to hold the hair out of the way while the donor grafts are removed.
At this stage patients are given the option of sedation. Patients who choose sedation are not permitted to drive and must be taken home by a responsible adult.
Local anaesthetic is always used on the recipient site to keep the scalp completely numb during surgery. This numbness may sometimes last for up to two months after surgery.
Procedures can take anywhere between two and eight hours, depending on the size of the transplant.
A three thousand graft procedure will normally take six to eight hours.
For procedures over three hours patients are given a break to have something to eat.
In fact, prior to surgery we’ll ask you what you feel like eating and, if you are having a morning procedure, we’ll have it delivered at lunch time.
When the hair transplant is completed patients change back into their own clothes.
All patients are provided with medications, detailed post operative instructions and a saline ATP mixture for spraying on to the grafted area for the three days after the transplant.
Sutures are removed two weeks after the transplant and a courtesy follow up is provided at six months post procedure.
After 12 months patients are able to see and enjoy the full and permanent affects of the natural transplanted hair which can be cut, coloured and styled as you would your normal hair.
