How can we help you?
In the earlier stages of hair loss, non-surgical hair loss treatments are available. There are many hair loss treatments and companies that claim miraculous hair regrowth. At Martinick, we only use and recommend products that have been vetted as effective through the stringent FDA approval process.
Successful treatment of hair loss and the subsequent restoration often calls for a Multi-Therapy approach with the application of standard hair loss product treatments for early stages candidates to a mix of treatments and surgical hair restoration for more advanced hair loss.
Whilst the treatments we recommend may help in the management of hair loss by halting the process of hair loss, the only permanent treatment is surgical hair restoration/transplantation. Hair transplantation promotes hair regrowth in areas affected by hair thinning or loss.
Surgical hair restoration has justifiably had a bad reputation in the past. Outdated techniques such as the hair plug, where the scalp is treated like a doll’s head to be plugged with tufts of hair, have produced unsatisfactory results with unnatural hairlines.
Fortunately, hair transplantation has advanced over the years. At Martinick Hair Restoration, we have been leaders in the field of surgical hair restoration led by our Sydney based principal surgeon and educator, Dr Jennifer Martinick, who has developed the new standard in hair transplantation, the Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT).
Not all hairs are created equal. Even at advanced stages of hair loss, most men retain a ring of hair around the sides and back of their heads. This hair is different genetically from hair located at the hairline and top of the scalp.
In Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) surgery, our surgeons harvest these permanent hair follicles from a strip of hair bearing skin removed from the back of the scalp. The strip contains hundreds, usually thousands of grafts, each consisting of micro grafts of a few hairs that can be surgically placed for growth in otherwise balding or thinning areas.
The transplanted hair will continue to grow in the balding areas in the same manner as in the harvested ‘donor’ area.
Hair transplant surgery is mainly for genetic hair loss, however, it may also be applied to restoring hair for:
